Jonathan D. Hernandez is a Staff Attorney at The Legal Aid Society, Bronx Neighborhood Office. In this capacity, he primarily focuses on eviction defense and civil litigation. He is a member of a general housing unit that provides free full representation in NYC Housing Court to eligible tenants under NYC’s right to counsel law established in 2018. Previously at Asian Americans for Equality, he advocated on behalf of tenants, to preserve safe and affordable housing in New York City, which included representation in NYC housing court, litigating building-wide Housing Part (HP) actions to obtain essential repair work, and advising tenant associations on their rights. Prior to AAFE, Jonathan worked in private practice, where he represented lowwage immigrant employees in the areas of wage/hour and employment discrimination cases.

Jonathan is a member of the Association of Legal Aid Attorneys (ALAA) – UAW Local 2325 and is  an alternate delegate for the Bronx Civil Practice. He also serves as a Co-Chair for the Asian American Bar Association of New York’s Government Service & Public Interest Committee.

Mr. Hernandez received his J.D. and Master’s in Environmental Law & Policy from Vermont Law School and his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Seton Hall University. He is licensed to practice in New York and New Jersey.
