Professional Development Coaching Sessions: “Developing the Ability to Influence Others”

Professional Development Coaching (“PDC”) Sessions are one-on-one sessions in which a distinguished group of faculty members meet with participants to troubleshoot specific professional and personal development issues that may be impeding career advancement.  Our goal is to help you develop a game plan to address such issues and help you move forward and rise up in the legal profession.

PDC Sessions began in 2015 as a series of group mentoring sessions designed by former AABANY Board member Steven Chung to help break down abstract concepts like “networking” and “branding” and translate them into concrete, actionable strategies to help AABANY members advance their careers. We are proud to continue Steve’s mission.

PDC Sessions are a safe space where participants can seek and receive honest feedback on “blind spots” that may be inhibiting their career advancement. This year’s theme is developing the ability to influence others. This skill is an important one to cultivate at any stage of one’s career, whether you are a junior attorney seeking to be staffed on a certain matter, a seasoned attorney with your eye on partnership or the c-suite, or in transition planning your next career move. To this end, participants should be prepared to discuss (1) whom they want to influence, (2) under what scenario(s) do they want to influence this person, and (3) how they plan to influence this person. Please note that this is a one-time session and there is no expectation of an ongoing coaching or mentoring relationship.
